We are slowly getting caught up with homeschooling. A couple weeks ago we were 4 days behind, and as of now we are only 1 day behind!!!! YAY!… But I did realize one thing… I think I am doing too much per day. The Alpha Omega Lifepac (for 1st grade) comes with 5 subjects, with 10 workbooks per subject. Well it said that each workbook was supposed to last 3 to 4 weeks. So I just did my lesson plans to have them done at 3 week intervals, making the school year 30 weeks long…. I just found out that the school year should be 36 weeks long!!!! Ooops… Going into this homeschool thing blind, is not always the smartest way to go!
… We’ll do better next year!!!!!
Jared is funny though. He now “tricks” me, by going farther ahead in his workbook. So that when I turn the page to tell him to do it, it’s done already. So I make this big show of being so surprised, and he laughs and laughs. So cute!
In the history/geography workbook he starts today, he will be learning about community helpers. This week he will be learning about police and firefighters. We have been wanting to take them on a field trip to the fire station near our house, and this will be the perfect timing. Next week he learns about dentists and doctors… Just totally by coincidence, next Wednesday Jared has both a dentist appointment and a doctor appointment. Then the week after that he learns about ministers, teachers and librarians. So we will have to take a trip to the library. We’ll do it on Tuesday (If it’s not raining, as we’ll have to walk) and catch the story time.
Remember that I mentioned that we were having our niece and nephew (almost 8 year old twins) over night last Friday? I was a little worried about it, because the last time they spent the night (more than a year ago) it was absolutely exhausting!… Our boys and the twins work each other up into an excited frenzy… They have fun, but it’s overwhelming… And the twins wouldn’t obey me when it came to cleaning up. This time they were all so well behaved! They all actually cleaned the room, WITHOUT being asked… Got into their jammies and brushed their teeth, WITHOUT being asked… And even settled down and went to sleep when I told them to. It was amazing!
The next morning I was making pancakes, and I asked Joe to find out how many pancakes the twins usually ate. Well Jamie says, “Usually I have one at a time.”…. Oh my gosh, I laughed so hard!
Well, it’s getting hard to type with Amanda in my lap. Plus I need to clean the kitchen up from breakfast, do my workout, take a shower and start school. Have a great day!
