Brain Strain – The Donkey Race

A friend posted this riddle on her blog, and I thought it sounded like fun, so I went ahead and tried. Much to my delight, when she posted the answers the next day, I saw that I got them all right! … I printed it out and told the boys that if they could figure out the answer I would give them 50 extra credit points in the subject of their choice… Josh took one look at it and said he would pass. *lol* … Jared, on the other hand, decided to try, and while it took him a while, he got them right too. :) (Joe refused to try when I showed him *lol*) … Anyway, give it a shot! I will post the answers in a day or two. (Just write down your answers in the comments section.)

Here goes…

Five donkeys named Don, Dave, Danny, Dina and Daphne decided to have a race. The donkeys finished in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places. To help identify themselves as they went racing around the track, they decided to wear numbers. The numbers were 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

The donkeys hired jockeys that had five different names. Their names were Samsler, Toejamm, Gorple, Gitzer and Blueger.

The jockeys were all different animals. They were a raccoon, badger, coyote, squirrel and woodchuck.

Based on the clues, match donkey names with order of finish, numbers worn, jockey names and animal types.

Here are the clues:

1. No donkey had a number on its saddle that matched the order of finish.

2. Dave finished one place in front of Dina and Daphne finished two places in front of Dina, but Daphne did not win the race.

3. Danny finished two places of front of Dave but Danny didn’t win the race.

4. Dina’s saddle number was larger than Don’s saddle number and Daphne’s saddle number was larger than Dave’s saddle number, but Daphne’s saddle number was smaller than Don’s saddle number.

5. Gitzer finished behind both Toejamm and Blueger but in front of the badger and the coyote.

6. Samsler, who wasn’t the badger, finished the race behind Gorple.

7. The squirrel finished behind the woodchuck, who wasn’t named Blueger, but the raccoon finished behind the squirrel.

Before I go, I just wanted to give a quick shout out for colon cleanse. I’ve heard that it’s a good thing to do that, and it may even help you lose weight.
